Inverted Basins by Africa–Eurasia Convergence at the Southern Back-Arc Tyrrhenian Basin

چکیده
The southern part of Tyrrhenian back-arc basin (NW Sicily), formed due to the rifting and spreading processes in setting, is currently undergoing contractional tectonics. analysis seismic reflection profiles integrated with bathymetry, magnetic data seismicity allowed us map a widespread tectonics structures, such as positive flower anticlines inverted normal faults, which deform sedimentary sequence intra-slope basins. Two main tectonic phases have been recognised: (i) Pliocene extensional phase, active during opening Vavilov Basin, was responsible for formation elongated basins bounded by faulted continental blocks controlled tear subducting lithosphere; (ii) phase related Africa-Eurasia convergence coeval Marsili Basin Quaternary time. lithospheric occurred along Drepano paleo-STEP (Subduction-Transform-Edge-Propagator) fault, where upwelling mantle, intruding crust, ridge. Since Pliocene, most deformation has focused this ridge, becoming good candidate future subduction initiation zone.

Microbial Ecology of Mid-Ocean Ridges and Back-Arc Basins
Over the past two decades, microbiologists have gained significant insights into the diversity and physiology of microbial communities associated with deep-sea hydrothermal systems. Much of the initial research focused on mid-ocean ridge (MOR) systems; however, because of the greater heterogeneity of vent fluid chemistry and sulfide structures from back-arc basin (BAB) systems, recent studies h...
متن کاملPeridotites from the Mariana Trough: first look at the mantle beneath an active back-arc basin
Two dives of the DSV Shinkai 6500 in the Mariana Trough back-arc basin in the western Pacific sampled back-arc basin mantle exposures. Reports of peridotite exposures in back-arc basin setting are very limited and the lack of samples has hindered our understanding of this important aspect of lithospheric evolution. The Mariana Trough is a slow-spreading ridge, and ultramafic exposures with asso...
متن کاملLong-Term Stability of Back-Arc Basin Hydrothermal Vents
Since the discovery of hydrothermal vents 40-years ago, long-term time-series have focused on mid-ocean ridge systems. Based on these studies, hydrothermal vents are widely considered to be dynamic, ephemeral habitats. Under this premise, national, and international regulatory bodies are currently planning for the commercial mining of polymetallic sulfide deposits from hydrothermal vents. Howev...
متن کاملSubmarine back-arc lava with arc signature: Fonualei Spreading Center, northeast Lau Basin, Tonga
[1] We present major, volatile, and trace elements for quenched glasses from the Fonualei Spreading Center, a nascent spreading system situated very close to the Tofua Volcanic Arc (20 km at the closest), in the northeast Lau Basin. The glasses are basalts and basaltic andesites and are inferred to have originated from a relatively hot and depleted mantle wedge. The Fonualei Spreading Center sh...
